on vacation with rich & phoebe
31.03.2008
We had a great time exploring Salzburg, Munich, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Bamberg with college friends Rich and Phoebe. Highlights of the week include: having our very own beer specialist with us to help us a) find great places to enjoy beer; b) tell us how the beer is made; and c) help us articulate what we should be tasting. Rich and Phoebe are also great card players and we spent many hours each day playing Eucker, Hearts and "Oh Hell". I don't have my notes with me on our travels so I will edit this entry soon with additional information on our vacation. In the meantime, you may see some photos of our adventures:

Classic views of Salzburg although without the spectacular mountains:

The Germans and Austrians LOVE their Easter decorations.

Munich:

While it's wonderful to travel in the off-season, the main drawback here in Germany is not being able to enjoy the beer gardens...

We loved the Pinakothek der Modern art museum:

The group in the snow and sun followed by a stop in a cafe to warm up. Phoebe wasn't too pleased with her hot chocolate and Adam had the world's most adorable creamer:

At a beer hall:

Andechs Monastery is located in the countryside near Munich and although it took us 3x's longer to reach it due to transit strikes the Hefe made the trip well-worth it. Honestly it was the best Hefeweizen beer EVAH.

On the train:
Rothenburg ob der Tauber:

The infamous Schneeball, Rothenburg's pastry item that Adam and I (and Rick Steves) don't care for. Rich and Phoebe were a bit more adventurous and claim the pistachio one they bought wasn't too bad.

Bamberg:
